Engelsk-nørder! Ret :) Engelsk-nørder! Ret :)

Sunday in the Park
22. september
2011

Analysis of the text Sunday in the Park, with focus on the relationship between Morton and his wife, and the comment: n“You and who else?”
Navn: Maja Schousboe 1.u.

Morton and his wife have a great family life. Morton works at the gray factory-like university. He’s a businessman, and obviously his not that fit. When Morton, his wife and the son goes to the park they’re all in good move, until a boy threw sand in the three-year-old Larry. Morton wants to protect his family, but as he sees the other boy’s father, he knows that he is unable to even try. Morton and his wife have a great relationship to each other, but when Morton realizes he is unable to protect and argue his family, and that’s where he fells the pain. He knows that leaving the playground was the right thing to do. After they left the playground Morton starts with apologies about how stupid and that a fight wouldn’t have proved anything. Deep down the wife felt shocked and anger, and that’s why she gives him the same sentence as the man in the park “you, and who else?”. Morton tells his own wife that she’s not good enough to discipline their child. He wants to feel power, and the episode in the park didn’t helped. It made him feel bad, and not capable to defend his family. Morton knows that his wife is disappointed and humiliated. He know that she is disappointed, which he expresses by the following sentences: “can’t you keep him quit…” , “ if you can’t discipline this child I will..”.
The story begins happy, and the family is perfect, and suddenly because of a little episode all the perfection are lost. Morton is snapping at his family, and the wonderfulness the wife describes in the first lines stops.

  • #1   22. sep 2011 gray --> grey
    his --> he is
    the son --> their son
    in good move --> in a good mood
    threw --> throws
    to each other --> with each other
    protect and argue?? (Argue betyder at diskutere??) Jeg ville nøjes med protect.
    and that’s where he fells the pain --> thats when he feels the pain ("and" skal ikke med her)
    Left --> leave

    og så må en anden fortsætte.... nu skal jeg putte min datter smiley

  • #2   22. sep 2011 When Morton, his wife and the son goes to the park

    Flertal, så der skal stå "go" i stedet for "goes"

    He know that she is disappointed

    "knows" i stedet for "know"

    smiley

  • #3   22. sep 2011 Tusind tak smiley
