er der ikke bare nogen virkelig virkelig søde mennesker på HG i dag der vil hjælpe mikg lidt. jeg er ikke ret god til engelsk og kunne godt bruge lidt hjælp til at rette min stil.
ved den ser lidt lang ud, men det går meget hurtig at læse den.
Kunne også godt bruge lidt hjælp til en bedre slutning. Håber virkelig der er nogen der kan hjælpe. giver selvfølgelig gerne kommentar og bedømmelser o.s.v. som tak.

There are made TV programmes, books and videos about it – I talk about young mothers. Almost all people have sex before marriage and a lot of young girls get pregnant. Then the question is whether to choose to have the child and no education, or whether to choose an education instead of the child. That is a very big decision, and it is exactly the problem the main character in the short story "Miranda" is in.

The short story Miranda is published in 1988 so it is written before that. It takes place in Los Angeles where Miranda and her parents live, but as the story begins Miranda starts at college in Boston.
Miranda is the main character in the story. She is 18 years old and has long dark hair. She is a “good girl” and likes to get her parents' approval for what she does, it can be seen on the first page where stands “She liked the approval in her parents’ eyes…”
The father also said “You are not the first good kids to get into a little trouble.”(Page 4) Here we can see that Miranda’s father still thinks that she is a child, even that she is 18 years old. She wants to do something that is her own decision, maybe because she wants to break away to her parents. But her parents do not want to let go on her, they still want to have the control over their child, and they do not support her in her own choice.
Michael is Miranda’s boyfriend. He is tall and tanned from his summer work. He is polite, you can see that on page 1 where he shakes Miranda’s father’s hand and gives her mother a little kiss, when he comes to pick up Miranda.
When Miranda calls Michael to tell him that she is pregnant, he gets very surprised. Then he starts thinking about what “other people” expect you to do when you are going to have a baby. They expect you to start a family and to get married. It is an old standard to get married when you get children, and that is Michaels first though. Miranda and Michael talk about getting married, but it sound like they only want to get married because you have to do that when you are going to have a baby.
Holly is Miranda’s roommate. They live in a second-floor apartment in Boston. Holly is very different from Miranda. You can say that holly is the “bad girl”, she has sex with another boy, even that she has a boyfriend. Holly does not want to be owned, she wants to be free, and live her own life. Miranda wants to be owned, she does not want to be like Holly, and Miranda think that if she gets the child and get married now, then her life is planed, and she would not end up like Holly, who has more than one lover end how lies to both of them.
The parents think that Miranda has to get an abortion, and get an education. And if she does not finish college she will be unhappy – and that is for sure. In the beginning Miranda really wants to have the child, but she has not thought about all the “trouble” about getting a baby “I’m all right. I’m not in trouble. I’m only having a baby.” Miranda has not thought about how hard it is to get a child, before her parents tell her. Miranda also says that she has not thought about anything, she only knows that she wants to have the baby. And even that she is pregnant she smokes, and she has not thought about how to earn money, she says that she can work, but you can not work when you have a little baby. So maybe the parents are right – Miranda is not ready to be a parent.
In the beginning Michael fight against Miranda’s parents, he says that they can do it, but then it is like he realized how difficult it will be, and how many things they can not do when they have a baby. He gives up fighting, and now Miranda is on her own against her parents and her own boyfriend. Miranda does not give up, she wants the baby, and she wants to show her parents that she can handle it. But the parents do not give up either, and they try to bribe her with a honeymoon.
And then the story ends, you do not get to know anything about what is going to happen with any of them. You do not get to know about Miranda keeps the child or not. In the last sentence it sounds like Miranda breaks up with Michael, “That was how she would remember him, even later when she would sometimes see him, she would see his face as it was now, the eyes downcast; and his broad shoulders in their halted shrug.” (Page 6) In the beginning he is a strong guy and he fights for Miranda and the baby, but then he gives up, and Miranda gets very disappointed with him, and she will always remember him as the weak boy how disappointed her.

As we can see in the story it is very difficult situations to be in. You have to choose the baby or an education, and I think that most girls would like to have both, and it is very difficult to choose one over the other. I think that Miranda would like to have both, and maybe she could get that if her parents would help her, but they do not support her.
